Let's Talk About Vampires

Hi! I'm Sherrill Quinn, new author at Amber Quill, and this is my first time blogging at AQP Authors. My very first official author blog here -- woot!

My story, The Claiming, was one of those selected in the last Amber Heat contest and is due for publication next month. It's the story of Kassinda Marjani and Rhys Valorian--an exiled prince from the planet Nosfer. His people are the Nosfera, although their ruling families are called ... you got it. Nosferatu.

My love affair with vampires began in high school when a friend and I discovered Christopher Lee's Dracula in the Hammer horror films. Tall, dark, mysterious, and deadly. Even in the movie where he had no spoken lines (the second one, I think), he still had such tremendous screen presence, I was hooked. And have remained firmly stuck to fangs ever since. LOL

Then there was Frank Langella, and Michael Nouri (in the TV show Cliffhangers--oy, he made a scrumptious vampire!), and Ben Cross as Barnabas Collins in the remake of Dark Shadows. I even like the funny ones--Love at First Bite (probably the first ever Dracula with a good tan!), Dracula Dead and Loving It, and Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein (with Bela Lugosi as Dracula).

Oh, and let's not forget Gerard Butler as Dracula in Dracula 2000. The movie wasn't that great, but put Gerard in a movie and show me his naked bum, and I'm so there!

What about you? What do you love about vampires, those dangerous, deadly heroes?

Oh, and here--check out the gorgeous cover Trace did for me:

Ain't he yummy?!?

Sherrill,

It's the danger factor that attracts me to vamps. :) With one nibble, they can take your life, so you have to hope you've 'tamed' them enough that they won't see you as dinner.

T.A., that's it for me exactly. Sharp teeth at your neck that can send you to heaven or hell--literally.

Bernadette, didn't Trace do an excellent job (as always)? My vamps' eyes go silver when they're aroused and he caught it exactly. :)

Richard_fan, I think I know what you mean. It's the dark edge they have, that I'm a bad boy and I don't care. {shiver}

Well, then, I'm not sure, either. :) It's some indefinable quality that draws us, regardless.

Hi Sherrill,

Enjoyed your blog. I'm not a huge vampire fan, though I loved Frank Langella's performance. He was so gorgeous when he was younger and still had hair. :) Whenever I watch that scene where he looks at Lucy with those mesmerizing eyes, and says, "You will fly across land and sea to do my bidding", I find myself nodding my head and saying, "Okay".

Have to check out Draculat 2000. Didn't realize it was Gerry Butler. Loved him in Phantom of the Opera.

Oh, yeah, Lyndi, Frank Langella was scrumptious when he was younger. But, then, weren't we all? LOL

The first thing I saw Gerard Butler in was Attila the Hun, which he did for one of the cable networks. Then Dracula 2000. Very sexy in that. :)
