Family Ties
My mother and father-in-law celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this month and I’ve been thinking a lot about family and how important it is. When I think about it, romance is really about families—a family of two. Yes, there’s the heat, the flash and let’s face it, the sex. There is also the connection between two people that goes deeper than flesh that touches the very core of us. Sometimes that connection comes over time, sometimes it happens instantly. But when it’s true and right it’s something I think all humans yearn for. We also have the connection of blood, sweat and tears that bind us to one another even deeper.
As a writer I see all the characters I create as part of my family. I revel in their successes and cry for their failures. They soothe me when I’m agitated and make laugh when I’m sad. I think that’s one of the things that drew me to fiction. Like my blood family, I try to keep in touch with my characters even after I’ve written “The End” on the public part of their lives. I decided today would be a good day to give an update on what’s been going on in the lives of some of the wonderful people who have been the driving force to my stories.
Maggie Moore and Ken Dryden from The Quarterback (http://www.trixiestilletto.com/quarterback.html) – the couple who launched my writing career as Trixie - are expecting their second child. Ken is now a head coach and Maggie is still writing for the newspaper. As you would expect, their focus is on their children and making their lives as wonderful as possible. Their house is full of laughter and love, always love.
Cody Winston and Samantha Sloan from The Blackout (http://www.trixiestilletto.com/blackout.html) are lovin’ and fussin’ and having a ball. After the rough start to their lives together they’re making every day an adventure.
Jamie Snyder and Clarissa Boiling from The Interview (http://www.trixiestilletto.com/interview.html) have built their company into one of the fastest growing and most successful enterprises in the world. Their energy and ability to work together has been a true partnership.
So that’s what I think some of my family members have been up to these days. What about you? Do you think about your favorite characters and how their lives have continued after “The End”? Let me know what you think…

I love the updates on your fictional characters--what will you think of next?
Of course, now that you've started this, I hope you realize there will be readers who want to know "And then what happened? And what happened after that? And are they going to have more kids or what? And what's Ken buying Maggie for Christmas?"
Chris
Chris: LOL! I hope they do. Heck, I'd love to play a little "What happened next..."
Trixie
Oh I l oved this!!! I often want to write the author and ask how is so and so! The stories and characters feel so real to me! Thanks for doing this!
Me too Cathie! I feel the same way!
Trixie,
I do this, too. I often think about Ty and Nicki's wedding, and I wonder when Liberty and Jefferson will actually get to know each other (beyond their bodies, that is...they sure know how to turn one another on!) Was Luke just a rebound man for Kimberley, or will they make it to forever?
Sigh. I miss them all.
I guess that's why I've started spin-offs. Salute, Making Noise, and Sound Off (as well as up-coming Wake-up Call and Apple Pie) have overlapping characters.
"Salute's" Liberty shows up as Mya's hairstylist in "Sound Off."
Shontae Pepper of "Making Noise" romances Liberty's sister, Bianca, in "Wake-up Call."
And most recently, in the works, Faith Hennessy (of "Making Noise") appears in "Apple Pie," her younger brother Mark's story...part of the upcoming "Best in Game" Pax.
More loosely related, Joanna Robinson races for Daisie's Halfway House, where Faith works, in "Go For Miles," part of the upcoming "Risk" Pax.
Ah...it's fun, isn't it?
Thanks for the updates!

You're welcome, Cathie! It was fun! I'll update some of my other characters in my next post as I'm always looking for stuff to talk about!
Trixie
Thanks Becky. You guys made my day. I worry so much about blogging cause I think I'm so boring! Anytime I can live vicariously through others, I'm there! LOL
Trixie
Penny, it is fun isn't it. Maybe we should start a round-robin. All the Heat authors updating readers on their characters!
Trixie
Okay, Trixie, I have to admit, that's not something I've thought that much about. But now you've got me wondering...
Thanks a lot - give an author more stuff to worry about! Actually, I think I'll use it when I'm blocked - keep me going with sequel ideas if nothing else.
-Kelsey
There you go, Kelsey. When you think about it though it kinda makes sense in a weird way, LOL!
Trixie
Oh Trixie how cool giving us updates on the characters! You may even get a new book idea while doing it.
Besides being very close with my immediate family I can also get choked up about favorite authors. And when you talk Trixie about a connection - it is funny that you can feel very close to people who you have never met in person but certainly care about and follow their career. I think that authors touch people's lives and make their life even more rewarding by sharing their stories and characters.
When you are having a tough time in your writing or in life in general - try to think about how many people's lives you have made a difference in. Even if you had no money to buy books - there are always ways to read stories.
I feel very fortunate to have met so many awesome authors on the internet and some of my dreams are coming true because I will be attending my 4th booksigning this year in Michigan even though I live in Ontario about 6 hours away - it is an absolute treat to meet my fav authors face to face and to truly hug them and let them know how important they are.
Thanks Trixie for all you write and do for us as readers and friends.
