It's spring!
Breathe!
Sometimes the day-to-day business of being a published author overruns the business of writing. There are countless details to attend to that range from remembering to send payment for a website cover ad to reading a fellow author’s manuscript and providing her with a quote for her website. There are contracts to execute, edits to complete, lists to chat on - and that's all outside of family and work obligations. With all of this who has time to actually write prose?
Such has it been for me this almost-winter just past. Details, details, details.
This week brings spring and I find myself thinking life is much too short to angst over such little things as missing a chat opportunity or a promo day on a list. My world is in a time of expansion and I say to you with all sincerity, it’s a wonderful, wonderful feeling. I fulfilled a life-long desire/wish/dream/hope this past weekend when I walked through an 18th century graveyard and touched the stones of my ancestors. Never let someone nay-say you when you know something is there, even if you don't quite know how you know it.
Life isn't measured by the daily word count. We all need to set our own goals and the pace at which we achieve them. I don't want to come to the end of my days and be saddened by the knowledge I lived those days on someone else’s treadmill.
Spring is a time of renewal that reaches into all the corners of my life. This is the time of the year when story ideas come faster than I can jot them down (must be the sunshine). The list of household and gardening chores grows daily. People at the day job start to mysteriously 'disappear' in the afternoons and this year, for the first time, I will be among them. I'm energized by my winter rest and eager to write, to play, to improve.
And to breathe!
