Romance Recap - A Most Unusual Princess

Hi everyone,

Today I’m taking a look back at my first Amber Quill Press romance, A Most Unusual Princess.

AMost Unusual Princess was an Amber Quill Press “Heat Wave” contest winner and the first book in my “Royal Desires” trilogy. (The other two books are Dalton’s Temptation and The Pauper Prince.) Together, they make up a fun trilogy, but each story stands alone as a separate read. A Most Unusual Princess also appears in my anthology, NaughtyNobles.

AMost Unusual Princess is a sensuous novella about unruly and willful Princess Elara, and Dalton, the forever-patient guard tasked with protecting her while she searches for a suitable husband. This story was the first erotic romance I ever wrote – and it was a lot of fun. (It’s also my husband’s favorite!)

From the outset, we learn that Elara is an opinionated young woman who is used to getting her own way. Dalton innocently comes along and catches Elara doing something very unladylike – and from there the Dalton-Elara love/hate relationship is born.

I enjoyed writing Dalton and Elara’s story and fell in love with the characters. The story is a unique blend of humor, human drama, and sensual romance. Not long after completing A Most Unusual Princess, I knew Dalton needed his own book, so I wrote a sequel, Dalton’s Temptation. And from there, Elara’s brother, Prince Allan needed to tell his story. You can read about his adventures in The Pauper Prince.

Here’s the plot summary, a steamy excerpt, and a few kind words from reviewers.

Summary:

Princess Elara needs to find a royal husband, but claims that no man can satisfy her. Dalton, Elara’s special guard, finds her unusual behaviors charming---and enthralling. Dalton’s aloof manner intrigues Elara, and despite their differences, they share tender moments and intimate nighttime passions. Elara is heartbroken when her father chooses a “proper” husband for her---until she meets the mystery man.

Excerpt:

Dalton closed his eyes and listened to his heart thundering in his ears. Elara was not the innocent child he had thought she was. Knowing that changed everything between them.

"Dalton, please come in here," she called out.

His thoughts swirled as he rose from the daybed and pulled his tunic down over his bulging breeches. He knew he shouldn't go into her bedchamber, but he felt powerless to resist her tonight. He'd kiss Elara for a few moments, then break away to sate himself. Tomorrow morning he'd have a word with the king and make arrangements to-

He opened Elara's door. Moonlight filtering in through the sheer curtains bathed the room in shadows. "Where are you?"

"Over here," she called out from the bed.

"Elara, what are--"

"Shh, don't talk, just come here."

As his eyes adjusted to the dim light, he saw Elara sitting up in bed. She extended her hand to him, and he clasped it. "Strip down and get in."

He shook his head. "Elara..."

She pulled his hand under the rose-colored coverlet. The heavy weight of her breast filled his palm. She moved his hand back and forth. His thumb grazed her hardened nipple.

"You know you want to," she said.

"It's not proper. I--"

"I want you, Dalton." She slid his hand down to her upper thigh. He groaned as his swollen member strained against his breeches. "Let's make each other happy, just for tonight."

His resolve faded in an instant. "As you wish, my princess."

Reviewers say.....

“5 Coffee Cups! Bravo to Ms. Wilkins for writing a twist in the book that makes the reader want to continue reading until the end. The way Ms. Wilkins allowed the two lovers to explore their bodies for the first time was so hot, I doubt a fire extinguisher would have been able to extinguish their passion for each other. The combustion sizzles between the pages as Elara desires to be closer to Dalton. I loved the banter between the two.” — Cherokee, Reviewer, Coffee Time Romance

“8.9 rating! A Highly Recommended Book! A Most Unusual Princess by Kelli A. Wilkins is a new erotic twist on an old beloved tale.
